BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES

Skegee/FAMU/FVSU

I know a lot of you have wondered from time to time how did I arrive at the screen name Skegee/FAMU/FVSU.  During my senior year of HS, I attracted interest from several of our more prominent HBCU’s, with Tuskegee and FAMU being among the group. I was accepted by seven, or eight schools, but because of family ties and tradition, it finally came down to making a choice between Skegee and FAMU.  I actually chose FAMU over TI (yes, it was still Institute back in that day), but I attended an all expenses paid pre-engineering program at Skegee the summer before my freshman year and ended up staying at TI because of the full scholarship offer they presented.  That was one of the toughest decisions I had made up until that point in my young life.  I really liked FAMU, the academic reputation, the overall atmosphere, and the athletic and band traditions.  I was even to the point of sharing a dorm room with a first cousin of mine who had just received a scholarship to march in “The 100”.  It finally came down to the fact that TI had the better overall scholarship offer, so I had to go with the money.  I did return to FAMU several years later for a Masters program, so I did get in on the FAMU educational experience after all.  I will be forever grateful, first and foremost to God for allowing me to be associated with these two most outstanding institutions, and for these institutions in preparing me for the success that I have had in my life.  The FVSU portion of the name is in honor of the fact that my mom and all of her sisters and brothers attended FVSU (Then FVSC).  That’s also where she met my now deceased father.

Additional FAMU/Skegee/HBCU ties:

  • Father held a Masters of Public Administration from FAMU and was an instructor on campus during the mid to late 60’s.  Also held a Masters of Agriculture from Tuskegee, where he served as an instructor during the early to mid 60’s.  Concluded his career as an advisor to several FVSC presidents.
  • Mom has a Masters in Counseling from Atlanta University (Now Clark-Atlanta University).  Presently retired, and involved with the FVSU National Alumni Association.
  • Older sister who was “Miss Tuskegee” in the early 70’s.
  • The cousin, whom I was scheduled to room with, marched in “The 100” for four years.  He is now the “Executive Director” for The Florida Caucus of Black Elected Officials.  He has also assisted in the planning of several Capital City Basketball Tournaments, and also works as an NCAA Basketball official during basketball season.  He, along with his wife (a FAMUAN), son (a Sophomore at FAMU), and daughter reside in Tallahassee.
  • Two nephews who attended Howard
  • Have ownership interest in an apparel company that markets and sells Greek wear and HBCU gear.

In addition to his ownership interests in one of the most prominent Greek wear and HBCU apparel companies, Skegee/FAMU also presently serves as the CFO/Controller of an African-American owned Construction/Infrastructure company based in the Metro Atlanta area.  Prior to that, he had over twenty years of professional experience in the Transportation Industry.

Skegee/FAMU also holds memberships in many organizations.

SOFISTAKAT

Graduated from 'Skegee when it was Institute - 1974 with social work degree and English minor. Currently works in newspaper admin and am trying to figure out how I can retire even as I type.

Am active in my church, local/region/national officer in alumni assn., vice-chair of athletic assn., active in local and national UNCF alumni councils.

I love all HBCUs, love to read (really enjoy mysteries and just about anything written by/about African Americans, love all types of music from classical to hip hop (although I haven't quite latched on to Country/Western), love sports - particularly HBCU sports, and the Grand is the love of my life. With his daddy's graduation last spring, there are now 4 generations of HBCU alumni in my immediate family.

WSSUgr8ness97

Both parents have HBCU backgrounds, with his father attending FAMU and mother attending Fayetteville State University. His sister also attends an HBCU, and is a NC A&T sophomore.  Both of his parents died when he was 10 years of age, and he was raised by his grandmother in Eastern North Carolina until he graduated from high school- 6th in his class.

Current Post-graduation plans include applying to a management program through Wachovia, BB&T or Bank of America, or as a second option, return to school and get a second degree and go into the medical profession.

DOOMSDAY

DOOMSDAY, the alpha and omega, the four seasons, the field nicka in your corn liquor, the seed in your weed, the soul glo in yo mama's afro, the crispy coating on your fried chicken, girl I make it so good it's finger lickin', slam dunk on yo @ss like Shaq-Fu-Shnicken...

The legend was raised in "The Rock"; an upscale yet dangerous neighborhood just northeast of Atlanta. Think of taking Beverly Hills and populating it with the citzens of Compton. Then give them guns and drugs. Then give them money. Then just wait.

The son of a Fayetteville State University alumnus and an Orangeburg, South Carolina native, as well as a 1996 graduate of North Carolina A&T and millenium graduate of the Howard University School of Law, DOOMSDAY is no stranger to MEAC football. He has seen extra point tries badly shanked in every state from Florida to Delaware. He has lived to witness scores as ridiculous as 12-4 and 46-45. He has borne witness to a school winning a game 73-7 one year only to lose to the same team the following year 26-25. He's seen teams that led the nation in defense give up 500 yards to the first team they played with a student body composed primarily of European descendants. Yet he is so lazy instead of using his vast knowledge of MEAC football he would rather ask his toddler goddaughter, a bum on the street, or a pot of chitlins to make his picks for him.

An accomplished attorney, DOOMSDAY is currently employed by a medium-sized law firm where he attempts to have his toddler goddaughter, a bum on the street, or a pot of chitlins perform all the work he bills to his clients.

If you have any issues with Social Security Law, please pm DOOMSDAY. He just doesn't lose.
