Recap: The surprise teams of the year keeps rolling, as Elizabeth City State University rolled over St. Aug 49-0. Johnson C. Smith University keeps going on the rebound by trouncing St. Paul’s. Wouldn’t it be incredible if they met in the Championship game? What would they call it, the Comeback Classic? Who woulda thunk it? It will be a slow week, as there are five games being played, but in conference play,
it's never a dull day. However there are no games that are being tabbed as must-see games, so
let's try to separate the good from the bad. P.S. As blessed from the prognosticator’s crystal ball, the CIAA corner went undefeated in his picks last week. As a result, his contract was extended until the end of the season. Keep Reading.
Steamroll Special- North Carolina Central @ St. Augustine’s College- In what was a great game last year, don’t expect much from this one, regardless if these two teams are regional rivals. St. Aug. is struggling very badly and the only game they deserve to play on would be a high school
game. Since they play on a high school field, they could be the away team. It’s the Eagles game to lose. Eagles by a Benjamin (okay, maybe 100 is too optimistic, so go for two 20’s)
The Oldest HBCU rivalry- JC Smith @ Livingstone- Livingstone looks to pull off a big upset over JCSU, but don’t expect it to happen. JCSU is
happy that they are winning, so don’t expect them to let up on the scoring at all. Another loss for Livingstone, another 10 degrees
to the coaching seat rises. Golden Bulls by two fortnights (28).
Surf n’ turf- Virginia State @ Elizabeth City State University- The time has arrived! The mighty Vikings are surging for that elusive CIAA East crown, and have to go through yet another opponent. If you want to see some fireworks, where else would be a better place than here and against the winless V-State
Trojans? The rebuilding year gets worse for the Trojans, who currently have set the bar lower than Livingstone. Besides, if you have a guy on your team named Chris Carter, you can rest assure that the ball is gonna be in the air. Liz City, the league’s best scoring offense, by 35.
Battle of the Mascot B’s- Bowie State @ Shaw- The bulldogs and the bears come into this contest with thoughts that the loser is effectively eliminated from contending for the championship game. Shaw could be poised for a run, while Bowie has been decimated by injuries, and
give the ‘Stone their only win of the season. Don’t expect to see a high scoring game, but do expect some late game heroics again by Jermonty Kimbrough to keep Shaw buoyed (no pun intended) in the division title chase. Shaw by 7
Showcase Saturday- St. Paul’s @ Virginia Union. The title is aptly name since this game is featuring the
league's worse offense and defense (respectively for these teams). Someone has to break through and do some damage. Look for the Panthers to claw their way to the top in what I’m predicting to be the 3rd straight overtime game for VUU.
