WEEK 6 in the SWAC

Predictions by Tigerpride: THE Logical One

Last week, THE Logical One improved by getting 4 out of 5 games correct. I guess I need to apologize to UAPB for not thinking they could get it done against Tuskegee. UAPB is probably the hardest team to call in the SWAC. All in all, we are finally seeing how things should shake out in the SWAC, especially in the EAST where it appears that Jackson State and AAMU are the teams to beat.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Texas Southern are both OPEN this week.

Prairie View A&M vs. Alcorn State @ Blackshear Stadium in Prairie View, TX (6:30 PM CST, Thursday night game-televised by ESPNU-live): Prairie View just got their butts whooped. The week prior to that, Langston was putting a foot to that behind. The win over SU was an obvious fluke now it’s Alcorn’s turn to show the world that PV is PV.
Prediction: Prairie View 24; Alcorn 27

Jackson State vs. Alabama State @ Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, AL (7 PM, Televised on CSTV-live): The Hornets have stung the Tigers every year since 2000. Yet Comegy is 5-1 against the Hornets during that same time frame. The Hornets seem ripe for picking as well as they have struggled in the early season while JSU appears to be a competitor for the Eastern division crown. Alabama State seems to have a less than stellar offense which bodes well for a JSU team with a defense that improves every week. The logical prediction suggests that JSU walks away with this one.
Prediction: Jackson State 31; Alabama State 6

Alabama A&M vs. Southern @ Lewis Crews Stadium in Huntsville, AL (6:30 PM): The Jaguar Nation looks to invade Huntsville and take a victory back to Baton Rouge. This is an intriguing match-up. AAMU is supposed to be a championship contender but Southern has a way of beating them if they have a passing game. However, the AAMU defense was changed for that mere fact. Meanwhile, Southern has no running game but they are still a big play offense with an average defense. Ironically, as far as I can tell, AAMU only has an average offense.
Prediction: AAMU 30; Southern 33

Mississippi Valley State vs. Grambling State @ Rice-Totten Stadium in Itta Bena, MS (1 PM): This game should be all Grambling but Mississippi Valley is a dangerous team if everything falls into place. Grambling faced some stiff competition in the early season. Then they got to beat a cup cake. I think they are still looking to prove that they are the top team in the SWAC and another win will help the cause tremendously. MS Valley seems more of a pretender than a contender but they did beat AAMU at home. I look for this one to go down to the wire. Of course, this is the upset special of the week.
Prediction: MS Valley 35; Grambling 28
